Alumni Association
GENESIS OF RABINDRANATH TAGORE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (RABINDRANATH THAKUR VISHWAVIDYALAYA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION)
ERSTWHILE HOJAI COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The Alumni movement of the present-day Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya, Hojai has its roots in the legacy of its predecessor institutions. The beginning can be traced back to the days of Hojai College, established in 1964, which served as a premier centre of higher education in central Assam. Over the decades, Hojai College produced thousands of graduates who went on to excel in diverse fields of academics, administration, research, social service, and public life. In recognition of their continuing bond with their alma mater, the Hojai College Alumni Association was formed with the objective of uniting the alumni and extending support to the institution.

With the upgradation of Hojai College into Rabindranath Tagore University under the Rabindranath Tagore University Act, 2017 of the Assam Legislative Assembly, the Alumni Association was restructured and renamed as the Rabindranath Tagore University Alumni Association. This transformation symbolized the broadening of scope and outreach, aligning alumni activities with the aspirations of a state university.

Subsequently, in 2025, when the university was renamed as Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya, the Alumni Association also adopted its present title as the Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya Alumni Association. This change preserved the institutional continuity while reaffirming the Association’s commitment to fostering lifelong connections among its alumni, promoting academic excellence, and contributing to the holistic development of the University and society at large.

Thus, the Alumni Association has evolved through successive phases—from Hojai College Alumni Association, to Rabindranath Tagore University Alumni Association, and finally to its present form, the Rabindranath Thakur Vishwavidyalaya Alumni Association—reflecting the growth, progress, and heritage of the institution and its alumni community.
